The secret of azulejos

When you live in Portugal or you're just traveling around this amazing country you can not pass by just like that next to buildings decorated with one of the most characteristic things- Azulejos - that are painted ceramic tiles. I am delighted with the diversity, color and texture that can be seen on these tiles. So I decided to know a little more about the history, how is it made when they began to use them to decorate their homes, churches and palaces. So putting it in a nutshell-tradition of making these extraordinary tiles in Portugal was initiated by Moors nearly 500 years ago. However, we can also find them in Spain and in South America and on the Philippines. At first they were used to regulate the temperature inside the buildings, but over time they became an art and it were not jost one-color tiles only but also a variety of motifs. They can present many different motifs, such as floral or geometric patterns, animals, inspired by fabrics of India and the Orient, and historical scenes (in this case a single tiles form one big picture). Below I would like to show you what I so admire.

Mieszkając w Portugalii czy jedynie podróżując po tym klimatycznym kraju  nie można przejść obojętnie obok budynków ozdobionych jedną z najbardziej charakterystycznych rzeczy- Azulejos – czyli dekorowanych płytek ceramicznych. Ja jestem zachwycona różnorodnością, kolorami i fakturą jaką można zobaczyć na tych płytkach.  Postanowiłam więc, dowiedzieć się trochę więcej o  historii, jak powstały kiedy zaczęto używać ich do ozdabiania domów, kościołów, pałaców. Tak w skrócie-  tradycję wykonywania tych niezwykłych płytek  w Portugalii zapoczątkowali Maurowie prawie 500 lat temu. Możemy je jednak  spotkać również w Hiszpanii oraz w Ameryce południowej i na Filipinach.  Początkowo stosowano je aby regulować temperaturę wewnątrz budynków, jednak z czasem stały się one sztuką  i już nie były to jednokolorowe płytki, tylko różnorodne motywy takie jak wzory geometryczne bądź kwiatowe, zwierzęta, inspiracje tkaninami Indii i Orientu, oraz sceny historyczne ( w tym wypadku pojedyncze płytki tworzą jeden wielki obraz). Niżej chciałabym pokazać Wam czym tak się zachwycam. 

Although azulejos are beautiful , covering by them entire buildings fit only to Portugal, and the previously mentioned countries, due to the old traditions. However, we can inspired by this art and use it in our own way, for example in interior design. The best idea will be to use azulejos only as strong accent, for example, on a part of one of the walls, or only on the floor. With the rest here you have some inspiration that I could find on the internet.

Jakkolwiek piękne są azulejos, pokrywanie nimi całych budynków pasuje tylko do Portugalii i wcześniej wymienionych państw, ze względu na dawną tradycje. My możemy jednak zainspirować się tą sztuką oraz wykorzystać ją w swój własny sposób, a dokładniej mówiąc w urządzaniu wnętrz. Najlepszym pomysłem będzie nadanie charakteru wnętrzu przez zastosowanie azulejos jedynie jako mocnego akcentu, np. na fragmencie jednej ze ścian, bądź tylko na podłodze.  Z  resztą macie tu kilka inspiracji, jakie udało mi się znaleźć w internecie.
